Dr. Heather Powell
35 summers have brought me to this place in my life; married to my soulmate, and Mama Bear of three perfect little cubs. Passionate about animals from the time I could walk and having an avid interest in medicine from an early age, I determinedly pursued a career as a veterinarian. With considerable focus and unwavering family support, I earned my DVM (doctorate of veterinary medicine) at 23. Service in the US Army afforded me the ability to pay for my education and the blessing of finding my soulmate. As service members, my husband and I have had the privilege of living all over the United States, but after the birth of our first child, we knew it was time to come home. We settled back in the land of 10,000 lakes in 2020 and excitedly began the journey of opening a family-owned companion animal practice.
Founded in 2022, Sirius Veterinary Care opened for business in July 2023. We chose the name Sirius for a few reasons; it is the main star in the Canis Major constellation, it is a play on the word “serious” (because we take your pet’s health seriously), and it is also a salute to Sirius Black, one of my favorite Harry Potter characters.
When I am not occupied with Sirius matters (pun intended), I do what I love most, spending time with my husband and children. I love being outdoors: walking, hiking, biking, or just sitting in the sun. In less desirable weather, I thoroughly enjoy reading (good book recommendations are always welcome) and playing board games. Faith and family first, everything else happens perfectly in time.

Sarah
Veterinary medicine has been my home away from home for 13 years. I love what I do! Getting to know each and every client I meet is truly my favorite part of the job, and my goal is to help you have the best experience possible.
In 2017 I graduated from college with a degree in medical billing and coding.
I live in Zimmerman with my husband Terry and two children Molleigh and Marin. Three kitties and a dog (Wallace the wonderdog) complete our family. My free time is spent outside playing with my children and being “Wallace’s Wingman” at the dog park.
I enjoy traveling, lying on the beach, swimming, movies, concerts, and camping. Brightening someone else’s day with humor, makes my day!
Raynee
After completing my veterinary technology degree in Ely, Minnesota, I have been working in the veterinary medicine field since 2021. I am now certified and currently working toward a leadership position. I am most passionate about patient advocacy and client education!
I live in the Otsego area with my family and our German Shepherd named Lincoln. He loves his frisbee and spending time outside (when he isn’t napping on the couch!)
As a family, we love spending time outside, baking lots of goodies, playing cards, and finding the best Mexican restaurants.
Shannon
Hello! My name is Shannon, I have been a Certified Veterinary Technician since 2002.
I honestly love all aspects of the Veterinary field, however, client education and patient care bring me the most joy. I love to teach clients how to best care for their furry loved ones, and care for all patients as if they were my own.
My hubby and I have been married since 2007 and we have 3 kiddos – who have all grown up WAY to fast. We have 3 cats and 3 dogs currently.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, hanging with family and friends and anything that has to do with being on a lake!
Erica
My name is Erica and I was once that little girl patching up a neighborhood squirrel with dreams of one day becoming a veterinarian. Fast forward a few years (no need to count how many), and I am just finishing up my first year of vet school at the University of Minnesota! I have been a Certified Veterinary Technician for 8 years, and in the veterinary industry for over 10. I have specialized training in anesthesia and sonography, and a passion for personalized patient care in order to provide a level of care I’d expect for my own fur babies.
When I’m not working or in school, you can find me with my husband, two beautiful children, two dogs, one cat, and a small flock of chickens. Stay tuned: a small hobby farm is sure to follow.
Kayla
Kayla is a Certified Veterinary Technician. She graduated from the Minnesota School of Business in December 2016 and received her national certification in April 2017. Kayla lives in Stanchfield with her husband Brian, their son Harrison and daughter Charlotte. Their pets include Black lab June, Aussie mix Wesson, their cats Hendrix, Cinder, Bubbles, and Julian, and a flock of chickens.
When Kayla is not working as a Veterinary Technician, she’s working as a PErsonal Care Assistant for her brother with autism. Kayla enjoys the outdoors, watching her chickens, gardening, and spending time with friends and family.
Jenna
My name is Jenna, I am 30 years old and am currently enrolled in school to get my certified veterinary technician license. My husband served in the USMC for 11 years and we have lived in California, Tennessee and now permanently live in Minnesota. I have a 5 year old daughter and a 3 year old son. I have been in the veterinary field since 2015, but my love for animals started well before then. When not at work I am most likely to be with my kids and husband outside or at the cabin. We love to travel, and spend a lot of time in Cincinnati with my in-laws. I like to call myself the “resident golden girl” as we have two golden retrievers at home and have fostered countless golden’s over the years. I treat all patients as if they are my own pets, and I love the bond we share with our animals.
MiKayla
I love working with and caring for all animals. I have four fur-babies of my own, two dogs named Meeko and Axel, and two cats named Nova and Luna. Originally, I went to school for education but found my way into the animal health field. I enjoy every second of being a veterinary assistant and cherish the hands-on learning experience it provides. In my spare time, I adore taking long walks with my dogs and spending quality time with my family.
London
My career in the veterinary field began in 2015. I enjoy surgery, pharmacology, and the day to day activities of a bustling vet clinic.
I have three wild kiddos who are the center of my world, three furbabies, and a hubby who likes to keep me on my toes! I am an outdoor enthusiast who also loves a good rainy day inside doing a slew of hobbies or a Harry Potter marathon. I have a heart rooted in kindness and compassion and I cannot wait to help take care of your furry family member.
Amanda
Hello, my name is Amanda! I always knew from a very young age that I would have a career centered around animals. Since beginning my journey with veterinary medicine in 2015, I’ve cultivated a deep passion for animal care and client relationships.
Although I couldn’t finish my veterinary technician degree due to the closing of my school, I found my way to Baudette, Minnesota shortly after, where I ended up managing a fishing guide service on Lake of the Woods for 6 years. In 2022, I returned home so I could be closer to my family and ended up reentering the veterinary field, where I began working at my first hospital.
My greatest joy for working in the animal field comes from building lasting connections with my clients and their beloved pets. I’ve been fortunate to share my life with my two soul dogs: my Wheaten Terrier, Mia, and my late Newfie mix, Annie.
In my free time, I enjoy anything that gets me outside, especially hunting, fishing, and hiking. I also love traveling, concerts, scary movies, getting tattoos, cooking, being up north on a lake, long walks with my dog, and spending quality time with my friends and family.
Aria
Being raised in the most pet-friendly home a child could grow up in, I’ve always loved animals. We had every manner of animals from baby squirrels to turtles to every size of dog; animals were always around. We have had dogs since before I started toddling and cannot imagine myself without one. Now I have my first dog, a Frenchie named Grundelow, who is the other half of my soul. As far was my experience in veterinary care, I worked at an emergency veterinarian for awhile with my sister, Dr. Powell, down in Kansas before I commissioned as an active duty officer in the Navy for four years. I am now in the reserves and wanted to work with my sister again. Working with the wonderful group of women here is such a treat and with all the adorable patients and wonderful clients, not a day here feels like ‘work.’ We raised every manner of animals from baby squirrels to turtles to every size of dog, animals were always around.
